Toby:
A baby. He was played by Toby Froud, son of Brian Froud the conceptual designer. He’s pretty much just a MacGuffin in a striped shirt.
Goblins:
The designers behind the Labyrinth created dozens of unique and individual goblins. Here’s two.
The Helping Hands:
The Doors:
Mr. Oldman Birdhead:
Worm:
Little underground man:
The Knockers:
The Fire Gang:
The Junk Lady:

According to “The Goblins of the Labyrinth” by Brian Froud, the Junk Lady’s name is Agnes and she can carry up to 70 times her own weight in discarded economic theories, abandoned personal objectives, hollow opinions, and worthless public statements.

That’s awesome.
I’ve been meaning to pick up a copy of “The Goblins of the Labyrinth” for a while. I think you just sealed the deal.
Thanks, Rachel Anne!

I like the worm too. And the door knockers. And the helping hands! But not the Fireys. Damn, they were so annoying! Toby, too.

In the beginning of the movie the worm says:
“If she had kept on going down that way she’d had gone straight to that castle.”
Did (s)he wanted to lead Sarah astray on purpose? 😀

Siiri – No, the worm didn’t from what I can tell. Just seemed to be a mix up in communication. All Sarah ever said was that she needed to solve the labyrinth. For many that would mean getting out… not to the castle. I think the worm just misunderstood what she was looking for and Sarah took it for-granted that it did. =)
That being said I really enjoyed Alph and Ralph/Jim and Tim. It’s a classic riddle and very well presented through them.

The worm is a guy… i think… he asks sarah inside to “meet the missus” hehe funny little worm decided to play a trick on sarah, and no one was allowed to HELP her get to the castle, and if he didnt tell her to go the other way, she wouldnt have gotten all the life-lessons and friends.

I don’t think the worm mislead her at all. I believe when the worm said if she had kept going down that way she’d have gone straight to that castle he meant straight, not left or right. She of course stormed off to the right after he told her not to go left, as she is wont to do.

It’s weird. This labyrinth is so huge. I’m just curious what the lives of these creatures would be like apart from their interactions in the film. Like did Didymus always guard the bridge? or do these creatures ever try to get out of the labyrinth or what? Wish they would’ve developed on that a bit more, maybe I should get the book for it.

Actually, the Junk Lady is named Magwitch, and none of the creatures try to get out of the labyrinth, but rather, inside. They are either exiled, from other wandering worlds, or they are *cough* Sarah. The fairies, actually, were exiles, butthe reason they couldn’t get in is because going over the wall is nearly impossible, because the pathmaker thinks (and I agree) that everyone should find their own way in, and it can’t be too easy, and in which that they make their way through the Labyrinth in doing so with the hardships. There is no easy way, one of the reasons the worm must have mislead her.
“It wouldn’t be much of a Labyrinth if it made sense, now would it?”
Also, for you fans, there is and American “manga”. (I use the word very loosley) It is called “Return to Labyrinth” and there are four volumes. It’s not the best at first, but it gets much better and I absolutely love it. It’s really for the people who don’t care completely for the art, but more for the storyline and all the Jim Henson things. And for you Jareth/Sarah fans, there’s no big glitzy wedding (sigh), but his love for her is there (trust me) although it is subtle, but because of that it is so much stronger!
Thanks for making this amazing site and keep wandering on in your own personal Labyrinth! (If you find any peaches, don’t eat them, just give them to me!)
